EcoGen

EcoGen is a PEM tool currently under development that uses available geographic and inventory data to map British Columbia's biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification units.

EcoGen can be used to provide the spatial ecological data and relationships required to do:

  • Land management planning
    • identify important habitats (e.g., capability/suitability mapping, rare ecosystems)
    • model management effects on habitat
    • plan reserve areas (e.g., OGMAs, FENs)
  • Yield analysis
    • link with SIBEC site index estimates
    • evaluate regional level forest productivity
