IntroductionThe Program Support group provides administrative and financial services to ensure that the Research Branch operates smoothly and effectively. In addition, the group provides support to the Forest Sciences Sections of the Northern Interior Forest Region, the Southern Interior Forest Region and the Coast Forest Region for co-operative projects such as administering the Forest Investment Account Forest Science Program (FIA FSP), developing performance measures, and updating the Research Procedures manual. These services free up the time researchers would otherwise need to spend on administrative tasks. Research funding is received from a number of granting agencies and sources, each with their own reporting requirements and performance measures. The Program Support group integrates this information into the Ministry’s corporate tracking system (MAX), tracks expenditures against resources provided, and reports out on the resulting measures. Support ServicesThe Program Support staff provides all types of financial and administrative support, including preparing contracts, accounts payable support, corporate credit card and travel management, and day-to-day financial advice and assistance. They ensure that the Branch complies with corporate administrative policy. They support corporate initiatives for new administrative and financial systems, such as an online contract module, and work collaboratively with Finance and Administration groups across the division. Staff frequently provides support to the Research Branch Management Team for projects such as developing a Branch business continuation plan, planning all-staff meetings, and responding to questions on corporate levels of forest research funding from a number of agencies.
