Developing Leaders
Leadership behaviours are focused on organizational well-being and
“best” people practices. The B.C. Forest Service vision includes a mandate
focused on the importance of running the BC Forest service with staff
whose individual contributions are consistently maximized, valued and
recognized.
An effective workplace needs strong, experienced leaders skilled in
managing people and maintaining organizational well-being.
Mentoring
Through formal mentoring programs, employees at all levels set aside
several hours a month to share their knowledge and skills with others.
Mentors increase their confidence, develop management and coaching
skills, and gain unique insight into how others view the organization.
“Mentoring for me represents leadership and
commitment to developing others. There are no shortages of opportunities
for people to do great things- mentoring provides a forum where mastery
and learning converge to become the future of our organization”.
~ Kathy Philps ~ Ministry of Forests and Range
Coaching
Where mentoring allows individuals to share wisdom, knowledge and
experience to reach their personal growth objective, coaching involves
the transfer of knowledge specific to an individual’s position so that
they may improve their performance. Coaching is opening avenues to
learning, rather than direct “teaching”. |
