Definition
Once the logical model has gone through the validation process, a preliminary physical data model and definitions are generated. The final version of the physical data model will be a result of a joint effort between Data Base Administration (DBA) staff and the application developer. Data Administration staff also participate to ensure information requirements identified in the logical model are translated properly to the physical model. DBA staff mainly ensure that the trade-offs between performance, data storage requirements, and application complexity are balanced appropriately.
Ideally, for a given application, both the logical data model and the physical data definition do exist and are maintained for each application release. Wherever possible they should be kept in sync.
