Feedback on Discussion Paper

The Province invited feedback from First Nations, industry and communities. In early June 2010 the Province held six stakeholder engagement sessions and invited written submissions before July 9, 2010 by mail, email, and a questionnaire on this website.

Stakeholder Feedback Summary

This report summarizes the written submissions received from stakeholders, along with the verbal feedback at the engagement sessions. This summary report (0.5 MB) will be used to help develop options on how best to achieve ZND, which will in turn inform the implementation plan.

The stakeholders’ written submissions are provided in a separate document (5.0 MB). These are referenced throughout the summary report.

Ongoing Work with First Nations and Stakeholders

Government staff will continue to work with First Nations and stakeholders while developing implementation options and the implementation plan for achieving ZND. The following questions, which were asked in the questionnaire on this website, are among the questions that will be addressed:

  1. What is the best way to raise awareness about deforestation and afforestation?
  2. How can deforestation be reduced in your community/sector?
  3. What are your ideas on how to minimize negative impacts (if any) from zero net deforestation on your community/sector?
  4. What can we do to encourage you or your community/sector to avoid, minimize, and mitigate deforestation?
  5. What existing incentives encourage you or your community/sector to avoid deforestation?
  6. What existing incentives encourage you or your community/sector to minimize and mitigate deforestation?
  7. What is the best way to ensure accurate reporting of avoidance, minimization, and total deforestation and afforestation?
  8. What else would you like to tell us about how to achieve zero net deforestation?
