Government Actions Regulation (GAR), Scenic Area and VQO Orders

Under the Forest and Range Practices Act, the Government Action Regulation provides for the establishment of Scenic Areas and Visual Quality Objectives and provides the criteria and process to do so. Many of the scenic areas and VQOs in the province were grand parented from the Forest Practices Code into FRPA. In some circumstances scenic areas did not have VQOs or the VQOs were flexible. In these circumstances VQOs have been established through GAR Orders. One of the GAR requirements is that the orders be posted. To see specific GAR Orders visit the following website.

Integrated Visual Design Procedures & Standards

The intent of an Integrated Visual Design Plan is to provide long-term direction for the development of the timber resources for an area of 5,000 hectares or less in a manner consistent with higher-level planning direction and respectful of other resource values. Integrated Visual Design (IVD) employs a process that considers all resource values simultaneously in an integrated fashion. It is applied in both the plan and perspective view so as to address visual quality concerns while optimising harvest opportunities in visually sensitive areas.
