The intent of this discussion paper is to solicit input on a new vision to guide silviculture on public forest lands and make British Columbia a world leader in growing trees.  This paper outlines challenges and opportunities, benefits, the current silviculture framework, principles to guide the development of a new framework, and some questions to stimulate discussion on the future of silviculture in British Columbia.

Activity Update

In developing a new silviculture framework for BC, key themes were identified. Progress has not been made under all of the themes. This update report includes accomplishments for the period October 1, 2009 to October 1, 2010. Within the table, accomplishments and progress for addressing the themes are listed by contributing agency. Some of the initiatives are ongoing and it may take several years before a product or outcomes are realized. For each accomplishment, the main contributing agency responsible for the progress being reported is referenced by acronym, and a list of the agencies and associated acronyms is provided below the table.
