Regional Silviculture Strategy Overview

View the table illustrating the past and current progress towards developing type 1 and type 2 silviculture strategies for all management units in BC.

Current funding supports three types of Incremental Silviculture Strategy planning analyses conducted at the management unit level.

Type 1 planning uses existing Timber Supply Review (TSR) analyses, reports and information to identify issues, opportunities and develop strategies.

Type 2 planning includes in-depth forest-level modeling to develop silviculture strategies. Both Type 1 and Type 2 analyses are intended to produce specific harvest level, timber quality and habitat objectives.

Forest Renewal BC (FRBC) has allocated $3 million for forest-level analysis for silviculture investments. This provides funds to develop silviculture strategies in 68 management units. As a measure of performance, FRBC has set a goal that every management unit will have developed a silviculture strategy by 2001.

To date, 40 management units have analyses underway or completed for their Incremental Silviculture Strategies.
