British Columbia and Alberta have established a Spread Control
Overview Team to oversee operational and tactical plans for mountain
pine beetle suppression activities in B.C.’s Rocky Mountain, Columbia,
Headwaters and Peace forest districts.
The Spread Control Overview
Team is responsible for annually developing a co-operative workplan as
required by the
memorandum of agreement between B.C. and Alberta to dedicate
resources towards the mitigation of the spread of the beetle infestation
to Alberta and beyond. This workplan determines funding arrangements
between the two provinces to be targeted at the forestry techniques,
methods and treatments to be completed each year for controlling beetle
populations in the border zone. The Spread Control Overview Team will
evaluate the effectiveness of the control activities conducted. The
overview team also reviews, monitors and assesses progress toward meeting the
spread control performance measures that are set out in the
Mountain Pine
Beetle Emergency Response: Canada-B.C. Implementation Strategy.
