Omineca Receives Funding for Pine Beetle Response Plans
The Province is providing the Omineca Beetle Action Coalition with
$870,000 to continue planning that will sustain mountain pine

Allowable Annual Cut Set For Tree Farm Licence 14
VICTORIA – Effective immediately, the allowable annual cut for tree farm
licence 14 will increase from 160,000 cubic metres to 180,000 cubic
metres, deputy chief forester Craig Sutherland announced today. The tree
farm licence has significant amounts of mature lodgepole pine, which is
vulnerable to the mountain pine beetle. March 31
$250,000 to Help Finalize Regional Pine Beetle Plan
VICTORIA – The Province has granted an additional $250,000 to the
Cariboo-Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition to finalize a regionally
developed plan for sustaining beetle-impacted communities and First
Nations into the future, Forests and Range Minister Rich Coleman

Water Stewardship Funding Announced
A grant of $27,000 will go to the Chase Creek Community Association to
complete a hydro-geomorphic risk assessment for the Chase Creek
watershed near Chase to determine the risks posed by increased stream

Xeni Gwet'in Get $51,000 Grant to Improve Fish Passage
VICTORIA – A First Nation in a remote area southwest of Williams Lake
will use a $51,000 provincial government grant to ensure that fish can
pass through culverts where streams are crossed by roads. The funding
comes from the Environment Ministry’s Mountain Pine Beetle Ecosystem

Geoscience BC Applauds Commitment for Mineral Exploration
Geoscience BC commended the provincial government for its commitment of
$6 million in new funding to support mineral exploration work in
pine-beetle affected areas and $6 million for oil and gas exploration in

Hydro to Advance Bioenergy Production to Utilize Wood Fibre
Vancouver – BC Hydro today released the first phase of its two-phase
Bioenergy Call for Power with a request for proposals that will utilize
forest-based biomass, including sawmill residues, logging debris and

New Green Community Energy System for Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE – The City of Prince George will build a new hot water
community energy system thanks to more than $5.3 million from the
Canada-B.C. Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund. This innovative project
will utilize biomass, such as wood impacted by the mountain pine beetle
infestation, to decrease electricity and heating fuel consumption of
downtown facilities. January 15
Roof Completion Marks Major Milestone for Richmond Oval
RICHMOND – A construction milestone for a major Olympic venue was marked
today as the final section of the Richmond Oval’s massive roof was
lifted into place. The roof includes 15 B.C.-manufactured glulam beams
that are nearly 100 metres in length. The beams are linked by “wood
wave” roof sections constructed from one million board feet of pine
beetle-killed wood. January 3
B.C. Government Funds Forest Habitat Study
WILLIAMS LAKE – The B.C. government is investing $70,000 to study
techniques to increase habitat quality for forest-dependent species,
