Data Requirements for Provincial Ranking of Suppression Beetle Management Units

Priorities for funding suppression beetle management unit activities (detailed aerial detection single tree treatments, performance measure reporting, etc.) is allocated using specific criteria established by the Forest Practices Branch.  The data required are:

• Bark beetle species (i.e., IBM, IBS, IBD).  
• Park present within the BMU? - Park name. (required to estimate BC Parks suppression budget)
• Green: Red (see: Method)
• Numbers of red trees (see: red tree estimation method)
• Numbers of  Green Trees (see: green  tree estimation method)
• Numbers of Infestation Sites ("spots")  (see: infestation site identification method)
• Susceptible Area (ha) (see: susceptible areas estimation method)
• Total BMU Cost ($)
• Estimated costs for:
  • detailed aerial detection
  • ground surveys (beetle probes)
  • single tree treatments
    • Fall and burn
    • MSMA
    • Fall and peel
  • baiting (purchase and placement)

The annual MFR District Beetle Management Unit budget proposal submissions use a common spreadsheet to facilitate budget allocations.
