Regulated Areas for Gypsy Moth
in British Columbia

No regulated areas are in place for North American strain European gypsy moth in B.C. at this time.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, using its authority to restrict movement of infested material, has established  "Regulated Areas" for gypsy moth. across Canada.  The two areas established in the fall of 1998- one around Nanaimo and the other in the Victoria area - have now been removed following two years of negative trapping results.  The description of the current regulated area in North America are available in Appendix I of the CFIA policy directive memo D-98-09 revised on March 10, 2000.

Maps of other regulated areas in Canada for gypsy moth and other organisms are found at the CFIA Plant Protection Policy Directives website

The conditions restricting movement of plant products are also described in detail in the CFIA policy directive memo D-98-09.
