Registration

All products sold as pesticides must undergo rigorous scientific testing before being registered for use in Canada and the U.S.   In Canada, registration of pest control products is the responsibility of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

For information on registration of Btk, go to the Btk Facts - Pest Management Regulatory Agency fact sheet (33k, pdf posted March 13, 2000)

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulates pesticides in the U.S.  Specific information on recent re-registration decisions of Btk products (including Foray 48B) is available.

Provincial Pesticide Permits

Application of pesticides on Crown land is regulated through the granting of Pesticide Use Permits and approval of Pest Management Plans.  Administration of this process is the responsibility of the Environmental Protection Branch of the Ministry of Environment.

Ground application of Btk does not require a permit.

Appeals to decisions made by the Deputy Administrator of the Pesticide Control Act in granting a pesticide use permit or pest management plan are heard through a formal process governed by the Environmental Appeal Board.  The EAB mandate, past decisions and a description of the appeal process are available on their web site.
