In the summer of 2008, 33 male moths were caught in
20 pheromone traps at 17 locations listed below:
BC Interior: Creston (total = 1 moth)
Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley: (total = 30 moths in 17 traps at 15 locations)
Harrison Hot Springs (16 dt), S. Surrey/White Rock (3 dt), Burnaby (1 dt),
Richmond (2), Vancouver (2), Langley (2 dt),
Delta (3), Chilliwack (1) Vancouver
Island: (total = 2 moths in 2 traps at 1 location)
Victoria (2 dt)
Normal monitoring grids are at a density of 1 trap/sq.
mi. If positive traps are found in this grid, the following year's
trapping density is increased to a delimiting trap density at 16
traps/sq. mi. (dt = denotes delimiting trap density).

Trapping Summary The 2008 trapping
results indicate that despite high populations in Eastern Canada, the
rate of new finds in B.C. is relatively static.
Mass trapping grids (placed at a density of 9 traps/acre
or 5,760 traps/sq. mi.)
at Lake Cowichan , Saltair and Saltspring Island (see
2008 treatments) did not trap any moths which
indicates that populations died out on their own at Lake Cowichan, or were successfully eradicated by the ground applications of Btk
(Saltair and Saltspring Island) . The Saltspring Island
treatment area was in its third year of MFR ground spraying (2 years
with Dipel 2XDF and last year's treatment with Foray 48B), followed by
egg mass searches and mass trapping conducted by volunteers from the
community (see the alternative
treatment page for more information on mass trapping).
Only one moth was trapped in the interior of the province and was found
in Creston.
Treatment plans for 2009 have been proposed (See
Current Status).
