Results of Canadian Food Inspection
Agency's Annual Monitoring and
Ministry of Forests and Range's
Mass Trapping

In the summer of 2007, 45 male moths were caught in 38 pheromone traps at 15 locations listed below:

BC Interior: (total = 0 moths)

Lower Mainland: (total = 15 moths in 13 traps at 9 locations)
Harrison Hot Springs (6), Burnaby (1), White Rock (1), Langley (5), Delta (2)

Vancouver Island: (total = 30 moths in 25 traps at 6 locations)
Lake Cowichan (5), Shawnigan Lk. (1), Prospect Lk. (1), Saltair (Ladysmith) (10 = 4 CFIA monitoring traps + 6 mt), Saltspring Island (13 = 3 CFIA monitoring traps + 10 mt).

mt =  High density mass trapping grids (trap density at 9 traps/ acre or 5760 traps/sq.mi., inter-trap distance 70 ft).

Mass trapping efforts in Sidney demonstrated good efficacy in eradicating the existing population detected in previous years (see the alternative treatment page for more information on mass trapping). The aerial spray in Courtenay and the ground sprays in Colwood and Victoria were considered successful with no moths caught in any of these areas.  The ground spray with Dipel and volunteer-lead mass trapping program on Saltspring Island resulted in a reduction of moths from 35 in 2006 to 13 in 2007.

Treatment decisions for 2008 are still being made and will be communicated when they become available.
