Gypsy Moth Trapping Results in
2004
Results of Canadian Food
Inspection Agency's Annual Monitoring
In the summer of 2004, 89 male moths were caught in
pheromone traps in the following locations - Langley (4), Burnaby (1),
Chilliwack (2),
Harrison Hot Springs (4), Vancouver (2), Courtenay (1), Nanaimo (5), Gabriola
Island (22), Duncan (24), Saltspring Island (7), Sidney (1), Esquimalt
(3) and Victoria (Saanich, Oak Bay and Vic West)(12).
High density mass trapping grids (trap density 5760
traps/sq.mi.,
inter-trap distance 70 ft) were used on Gabriola Island, Abbotsford, and
Duncan. Although 21 moths were trapped in both the Duncan and
Gabriola mass trapping grids, no moths were caught in the Abbotsford
mass trapping indicating that this population has likely died out on its
own. See the 2004 detailed trapping results page
for more
detailed maps and trapping information.
No moths were found in the
N. Delta spray area treated in spring, 2004. Egg masses searches
are now underway. Until these surveys are completed, no
treatment decisions have been finalized for 2005. Click
