Objectives

Objectives (2006-07)
  1. Install sample plots to monitor vole (Microtus spp.) populations on sites associated with the 2003 fire season, to allow prediction of vole population trends and potential feeding damage to newly planted trees in spring 2007.
  2. Prepare decision-support plans for (a) monitoring of voles in the 2006-07 fiscal year and subsequent years, and (b) potential use of diversionary feeding as a means to reduce damage by voles to newly planted trees.
  3. Prepare an annual report by March 15, 2006 outlining all deliverables for this fiscal year.
Objectives (2007-08)
  1. Continue monitoring vole populations on the MacGillivray, McLure, and Okanagan Mountain Park fires. Expand monitoring sites to other fire locations.
  2. Compare vole populations in sites that have been grass-seeded versus those without seeding on at least 3 replicate fire areas.
  3. Prepare a diversionary food strategy to protect newly planted seedlings in spring 2007.
