All Working Groups Meeting - November 1, 2005

Meeting Frequency (Nigel Fletcher)

  • After discussion, it was decided that in the future the group would reduce its meetings from bi-monthly to monthly (last Tuesday of every month) with the next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 29. At these meetings, committee reports will be done on an exception basis - i.e., only reporting on what has changed.
  • Committees will continue to post their minutes on the FFT website in order to keep everyone informed and up-to-date.

November 9-10 FFT Program Meeting (Janet Gagne)

  • The agenda is being finalized, with speakers and topics in the final stages of being confirmed. "Final" agenda will be posted this week to the website.
  • Any issues regarding workshop topics, challenges, assumptions and background material should be forwarded to Workshop Leads by end of day today.
  • Challenge documents will be posted to the website before the meeting.
  • Participants who have not yet RSVP'd to the meeting are urged to do so today to Michele Baker 598-8170
 

COMMITTEE UPDATES

Strategic Planning (Lorne Bedford)

 
  • the Program Management Plan is with Tim Sheldan for sign-off.

Program and Operational Planning (John McClarnon)

 
  • the FFT program is looking at a tentative freeze of about $4 million which may impact approvals for new projects but will not impact allocations for projects which have already been approved.

Implementation (Mike Madill)

 
  • a decision will be made on the Delivery Model after stakeholders have a chance to provide input during the November 9-10 meeting.

Performance Measurement and Reporting (Susan Hoyles)

 
  • a report is being prepared and will be presented at the Dunsmuir meeting.

Communications (Nigel Fletcher)

 
  • a new "Key Links" area has been added to the website to increase ease in navigating the site.
  • All FFT meeting materials will be posted on the website and available for download.
  • A new section called NSR and impeded stands has been added to the site.

Silviculture Strategy (Guy Newsome)

 
  • A successful Type 1 meeting was held in 100 Mile House last week - good attendance, and it took the full two days to cover the topics
  • The Merritt Type 1 meeting is scheduled for next week - it will be staff at District Level because of the FFT meeting in Victoria that week.
  • Tenders are being evaluated for the Quesnel Timberline Project, with a decision expected by the end of this week.
  • The schedule for Type 1 meetings in the North has been posted on the website - if possible there should be regional representation at these meetings

Inventory (Graham Hawkins)

 
  • A workshop is scheduled for November 15 on Business Process Mapping - intention is to identify where the program can be better coordinated with regard to approval and tracking projects. A report on outcomes of the workshop will be distributed.
  • A draft Action Plan will be reviewed with stakeholders during a planned 2-day session at Mesachie Lake.
  • The Proponent Inventory Plan for Vanderhoof is ready to proceed.

Seed Planning (Brian Barber)

 
  • seed analysis for the Southern Interior Region is ready to submit
  • seed analysis for North is commencing
  • an update will be presented at the Dunsmuir meeting next week.
  • the briefing note on the BC Timber Sales agreement is posted on the website

Ecosystem Restoration (Colene Woods)

 
  • The Ecosystem Restoration Plan (ERP) is getting underway. On a temporary basis until the end of the fiscal year, Judy Miller, Sue Crowley, and Patrick Daigle will work on various aspects of the program and contractor liaison. Colene Wood will remain the headquarters leader and WG chair.
  • ·A presentation of the status of the program will be made at the meeting next week.

Effectiveness Evaluation (Alanya Smith)

 
  • Regional staff meetings were recently held in Prince George and Kamloops with good feedback on the monitoring projects
  • minutes have been posted on the FFT website and a report will be circulated asking for feedback

Research (Jacob Boateng)

 
  • R. Keith Jones and Associates has completed the draft Planning Memo and Challenge Paper and it has been sent out for comments and feedback.

Forest Health and Climate Change (Tim Ebata)

 
  • results of the Young Pine Mortality Study, conducted by Lorraine McLaughlin, will be presented at the Dunsmuir meeting next week.
  • a report to brief the Chief Forester on the effects of Climate Change will be drafted early December, with a possible finalization date of mid-February

Species in Beetle Blocks (Lorne Bedford)

 
  • Pat Martin will make a presentation to Executive on Monday, November 7, with a subsequent report out for review and comments by First Nations and other stakeholders, with resulting recommendations presented at the December 6-7 meeting in Prince George.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Update (Ian Brown)

 
  • Work is progressing with recipients and TSAs to identify backlog and impeded stands from a planning point of view. Proponents are viewing this review as very valuable from a planning perspective.
  • The 2nd Quarterly Report is posted on the website
  • A financial update will be presented at the Dunsmuir meeting next week.
