Strategic Planning (John McClarnon)

 

 

§         nothing new to report since January 5 meeting

 

Program and Operational Planning (John McClarnon)

 

 

§         nothing new to report - next scheduled meeting is February 1

 

Implementation (Brian Raymer)

 

 

§         John McClarnon is developing an action plan for the committee for activities over the next couple of months

§         developing RFP for implementation contractors

§         developing an RFP for recipients - to cover all necessary documentation - including a lot of flexibility to meet everyone's circumstances and ensure we have all required pieces.

 

Performance Measurement and Reporting (Ralph Winter)

 

 

§         nothing to report

 

Communications (Alanya Smith)

 

 

§         the first meeting of the communications committee is scheduled for February 15

§         members of the committee are Al Randall, Nigel Fletcher, John McClarnon, Ljiljana Knezevic and Dave Weaver - anyone else who is interested in serving on the committee should contact Alanya

§         Alayna to contact Anna Monetta re committee membership

§         an ITQ is out for research and effectiveness evaluation which includes having someone help with an overall communications strategy for the FFT program

§         this will serve as a guide for other committees to build their communications plans

ACTION

Silviculture Strategy (Rocky Chan)

 

 

§         Type 1 - 100 Mile House report has been written in draft, with a few minor changes made, it can serve as a template for other reports.

§         Type 2 - Rocky Chan is meeting with districts on February 1 to sort out details and revise contracts

§         two weeks behind schedule as we haven't got all the feedback required from MOE - a conference call is scheduled for February 2 for them to provide the information

§         this week we'll iron out the details and hopefully advertise next week.

§         YKW is working on finalizing dataset with Timberline - behind schedule for about 2 weeks - however, we fully expect to deliver on schedule by the end of March

§         Quesnel project - series of meetings with Forintek and some work around designing response curves re wood stock

§         some slippage happening - report back early next week as to what likely completion level will be by March 31

 

 

Inventory (Graham Hawkins)

 

 

§         summaries have been sent out of the results of the Mesachie Lake workshop - please provide feedback by the end of this week to ensure we haven't missed anything

§         now fine-tuning criteria to rank projects relevant to other business areas

§         a session was held in November on Business Process Mapping and subsequently another session has been held in Kamloops

§         we now need to have another follow-up one day session on the process by the end of February

§         an ITAC meeting is schedule for February 6

§         starting air photo planning on Feb 7 with the Regions - this is a high priorities - deal with border districts

§         there is some inventory progress on updating small scale salvage - however there is some slippage there that will affect projects, especially slippage on Fire

 

Seed Planning (deferred)

Ecosystem Restoration (Janet Gagne)

 

 

§         website is up and running for restoration planning

Effectiveness Evaluation (Alanya Smith)

 

 

§         sending out email to working groups to set priorities for draft questions

§         next meeting is scheduled for February 14

§         GIS strategy - person working on GIS to evaluate how we can use GIS in PREP program

 

Research (Gord Nigh)

 

 

§         the site index has been modified to make it appropriate for the FFT program - it is now posted on the website

§         first draft of the Research Strategy has been received from the consultant - some recommendations for changes have been made and a meeting is scheduled for February 3, after which it will be distributed  for further feedback

§         field guide available on demand - make sure people are aware of this decision aid

§         District have been asking for field training on site indexing - Ralph, Gord and Mario to come up with an action plan to determine if such training will be constructive

§         Prognosis Training is being held on March 9 - people should attend  where appropriate

 

Forest Health and Climate Change (deferred)

Enaresde Update (Janet/Sheldon Gagné)

 

 

§         Presently updating the Program Plan - people should get their comments to Janet and John if there is anything in the PMP they want updated.

§         the Strategic Silviculture group met in early January  and has scheduled another 2-hour conference call

§         Sheldon is working on the FN consultation policy with Nola and others

§         this policy is going out for comments soon

§         Also developing an RFP package that could be advertised for April

§         workplan tables should go out within a couple days

 

 

Pricewaterhousecoopers Update (deferred)

Northern Region - Operational Update (Gord Dow)

 

 

 

§         there has been a resurgence in licensee interest in PWC

§         however, licensees are experiencing problems with RESULTS access for contracts

§         CANFOR has just come forward with proposals for gathering pine seed and some remote sensing projects

§         there is an interest in examining the understory retention proposal

§         biggest project - underplanting stands 125,000 ha between Fort St. John and Vanderhoof

§         a meeting with major licensees on February 2 in Prince George regarding fertilization will be focused around working together for a more cohesive program with economies of scale and efficiencies

§         $3 M of fertilizer has been ordered for activities next fiscal

 

 

 

 

Southern Region - Operational Update (Rocky Chan)

 

 

§         there is a problem with RESULTS - getting the backlog information into RESULTS may not be possible by March 31

§         there is no access for the 25-30 defunct licenses

§         BC ID can view information but not update it

§         ITER accounts are easy to issue and will solve this problem - contact John Gallagher.

§         contacts should be all done - waiting for last invoice - on schedule

§         re Williams Lake FFT meeting, a teleconference is planned for February 1 to finalize the agenda and then it will be sent out to everyone.
