Monitoring of Forest Fertilization

FFT is planning a monitoring protocol that

  • is systematic - random
  • accounts for growth prior to fertilization
  • accounts for differences among BEC (biogeoclimatic) attributes
  • requires an untreated area (either on the same polygon or on another polygon with the same BEC attributes)
  • accounts for growth after fertilization
  • has statistical rigor
  • relies on many small samples (plots) rather than many large samples (plots)
  • provides the first report in four but possibly three years
  • has a relatively low cost per data plot

The details are being developed by the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Northern British Columbia.
