The term autecology refers to the ecology of an individual organism. Plant autecology is the study of the ecological interactions between a plant species or population and its environment.
Resource managers require a basic understanding of the ecological characteristics of individual species and how they respond to management treatments. This publication summarizes the autecology characteristics of 35 vegetation species and provides information about how they respond to various silvicultural treatments now in use on forest lands. It contains valuable information for those who seek to manage vegetation either to control competing vegetation or to enhance browse, forage, and cover to meet wildlife, range, and other integrated resource management objectives.
