Abstract
The Biodiversity Guidebook contains two different definitions of old growth - one based on age, and one based on structural characteristics. The latter definition was not described in detail by the Provincial Biodiversity Committee due to the absence of data.
This report presents a quantitative assessment of the structural characteristics of old growth stands in the Nelson Forest Region, and it outlines the key characteristics for old growth by variant and site series. Together with an earlier technical report (TR-013), the reader has a complete set of regional standards, additional data on tree species and snag composition, and other data for old-growth stands.
This information should form the basis of old-growth management initiatives based on structure, in the NFR.
