Abstract
Periodic calibration of field soil textures will ensure consistency among field practitioners. This can be achieved by using sieves in the field and by referencing a local soil texture library. In most cases, hand textures, if done with care, will agree with laboratory determined textures. In situations where discrepancies arise, potential sources of variation should be reviewed.
