Tree Wounding and Partial-cut Harvesting

Author: Stefan Zeglen
Subject: Forest Health
Series: Silviculture
Other details: Published 1997, 40 pages.

Abstract

Increased use of commercial thinning and other partial cut silviculture systems in BC has raised questions about acceptable limits of residual tree damage. This review provides a consolidated reference to the diverse literature available on tree damage, partial cut harvesting, and decay fungi. Topics include tree response to injury, wood decay organisms, factors affecting decay development and recognition, and stand management and harvesting strategies to prevent wounding. This reference is intended to complement the Forest Practices Code Tree Wounding and Decay Guidebook.
