Abstract

This study determines the terminal growth potential at optimum light environments for naturally regenerated seedlings of shade-intolerant lodgepole pine and moderately shade-intolerant interior spruce in the western portion of the Sub-Boreal Spruce Zone. It quantifies the responses of terminal growth and specific leaf area to light availability across a range of site qualities and compares changes in growth and specific leaf area in relation to light and different soil moisture regimes.
