Abstract
The northern part of the Pacific Ocean Wetland Region occurs on the lowlands and lower mountain slopes of the outer British Columbia coast from northern Vancouver Island to Southeast Alaska. Wetlands cover nearly as much area as does closed forest in this region, not only because the topography is generally subdued, but also because the cool, wet climate promotes organic soil formation.
