Abstract
Soil degradation associated with conventional forest harvesting, exacerbated by soil conditions and extent of machinery use on the area, is a major problem in B.C. and elsewhere in the PNW. This report examines surface erosion, mass movement, site assessment methods, sensitivity rating systems, rehabilitation, extension and planning, costs and productivity of harvesting equipment, economic impacts and research needs.
