Abstract

A hierarchical system for the classification of humus forms is proposed. The proposed system has been developed because of difficulties encountered with previous systems in discriminating between humus forms, and in relating them to ecosystems. It is based on earlier systems, but takes advantage of extensive field experience obtained from the Ecological Classification Programme in British Columbia.
