Other details: Published October 1994

Abstract

Mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosa Hopk.) causes more destruction in mature pine forests in British Columbia than any other insect. This report documents the productivity and costs of the commercial thinning and the clearcut harvesting operations on two sites. The productivity of the harvesting equipment and operating practices used during the harvesting phase on each treatment are compared, and the operational feasibility of commercial thinning is examined.
