Abstract

This summary of surveys in young stands by the Canadian Forest Service's Forest Insect and Disease Survey (FIDS) provides an overview of remaining pest problems in young stands treated under the Canada-British Columbia Forest Resources Development Agreement (FRDA II). The surveys were part of the forest health component (activity #1.523) of the Forest Resource Inventory Sub-program of FRDA II.

Two hundred thirty-four young stands were randomly selected from British Columbia Forest Service (BCFS) Silviculture History Records lists and examined. Of these, 7% were pest free and 16% contained problems severe enough to require immediate action. This report details methods, summarizes findings, and provides discussions and recommendations on pests of young stands on a provincial basis.
