Abstract

This report describes the structure of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system used by Statistics Canada, and the industries that make up the forestry sector within that structure. It also describes and compares the structure and methodology of three surveys conducted by Statistics Canada, which can be used for estimating employment in the forestry sector in British Columbia. These are the annual Survey of Logging and Manufacturers (AS); the monthly Survey of Employment, Payroll and Hours (SEPH); and the monthly Labour Force Survey (LFS).
