Abstract

In British Columbia, over 95 percent of all reforestation seedlings are grown in styrofoam containers (styroblocks). Repeated use of styroblocks, however, promotes the development of algae and root rot fungi which results in significant seedling losses every year. To address this problem, over 100 methods of sanitizing recycled styroblocks were examined and, based on these findings, recommendations for operational use were developed.
