First Nations
The Ministry of Forests and Range First Nations business area
provides leadership, advice and guidance with respect to the
First Nation consultation process and aboriginal interests,
cultural heritage resource management, and treaty and
accommodation agreement negotiations as well as a wide variety
of other responsibilities. As well, this business area is
involved in delivering aspects of the Forestry Revitalization
Plan regarding increasing First Nations participation in the
forest sector.
This business area supports the Ministry’s objectives to increase
First Nations’ opportunities for participation in the forest
sector; to create stability on the land base; and to develop
forestry operations that respect First Nation aboriginal
interests on the land base. To assist in meeting this objective,
the business area provides support and direction regarding the
negotiation of Forest and Range Agreements/Opportunities (FRA/FRO)
that provides First Nations with access to tenure opportunities
and revenue.
Training for First Nations in forestry is offered through a number
of learning organizations. Visit our
Other Learning Resources
page for links to these training providers.
The Ministry also provides learning opportunities for government
and industry staff on their roles and responsibilities with
First Nations.
