BC Timber Sales
BC Timber Sales Division (BCTS) is an independent organization within the Ministry of Forests and Range.
The Ministry works with thousands of tenure holders each year, ranging from small area or volume-based holdings
(e.g. woodlots or timber sale licences) to large major licences (e.g. forest licences or Tree Farm Licences.).
BCTS supports the Ministry’s goal of providing British Columbians with sustainable benefits from the commercial
use of public forests. The organization does this by planning, developing and auctioning a substantial and representative
portion of the province’s annual available timber volume.
Through private sector contractors and its staff, BCTS completes forest planning, timber cruising, layout/engineering,
road construction/maintenance and silviculture activities such as tree planting, surveys and stand treatments.
The training under this heading outlines the direction and framework for a learning strategy for BCTS staff. Other
documents provide support material for the strategy and reference materials used in developing the strategy.
