Quick access to information based on government's structure
The ministry collects and analyzes information about fibre flow and operating mills in British Columbia by:
undertaking an annual survey of primary timber processing facilities in B.C.;
analysing the information it collects on logs harvested in the province; and,
reviewing company news releases and media reports.
This information is supplemented with information provided in reports by various commercial analysts and through government contacts. Fibre and mill information is compiled on a regular basis and made available through the following reports.
A quarterly update on closed and re-opened timber processing facilities in the province, including comments on recent trends such as employment and major investment announcements
An annual report on timber processing mills that have primary log processing capability, including pulp and paper mills, panel plants and pellet mills. Where a mill produces more than one product (e.g. lumber and veneer; poles and posts), each operation is listed in the respective sections of the report. The List of Mills Appendix is also available as an Excel spreadsheet.
“Fibre flow” is the term used to describe the movement of logs from the point of harvesting the trees to the point of processing them. The following information describes the way in which timber is shipped throughout the interior forest district of British Columbia.
