Adapting BC’s Natural Resource Management to Climate Change

  • The Context: British Columbia’s overarching Climate Change Adaptation Strategy as articulated by the Climate Action Secretariat envisions that “British Columbia is prepared for and resilient to the impacts of climate change”. Adapting B.C. forests to climate change is an important part of the adaptation work being undertaken in B.C.

  • B.C.’s Forest Stewardship Action Plan for Climate Change Adaptation outlines a new vision and signals an important new policy direction for climate change adaptation for forest management in British Columbia. Released in February 2012, it outlines goals, objectives and actions the Ministry will take over the next five years to adapt forest stewardship to a changing climate.

  • Adaptation Knowledge and Tools for Adapting B.C.’s Forest Management points to B.C. forest policies for adapting to climate change, and provides links to a suite of knowledge and tools to assist forest managers adapt their practices so that forests will remain resilient in the face of climate change, variability and other stressors.

  • Future Forest Ecosystems Scientific Council The FFESC funded 27 research projects to inform adaptation of BC forest and range policies and practices to climate change. This web site includes information on FFESC, and its many new project reports. A synthesis of research outcomes and the results of the June 2012 closing conference will soon be available.
