Overview
The data used in this analysis
is scale data. This means that the date of record is when the volumes were
scaled. This is typically earlier than the time the volume is billed and,
therefore, closer to the actual time of harvest.
The volumes used are both
harvested and scaled in the Northern Interior and Southern Interior Forest
Regions. This means that those volumes harvested in the interior and scaled in
the Coastal Forest Region and vice versa are excluded. The volumes flowing
between the interior and coast will be more significant for the forest districts
which boarder the coast and interior. The volumes are not significant on an
interior-wide basis.
Data for this analysis has
excluded waste and reject volume as well as special forest products (Christmas
tree).
Data File
The “raw” data file available
for download from this site goes from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2008,
allowing for a time series analysis. The data file also includes information at
the grade level, which is not summarized in any of the tables or figures
available on the site.
The data file includes a tab
with keys for certain Harvest Billing System (HBS) and Forest Tenure
Administration (FTA) codes. E.g. species and grade keys are found in this tab.
These keys will be important to those choosing to work with the data.
