Carbon Sequestering Activity

There are no provincial standards for carbon monitoring at this time. It is anticipated that in the near future, there will be a legal framework regarding carbon sequestration and accounting. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will be developing the best practices guidelines for measuring carbon sequestration, probably over the next 12 months. In lieu of these, proponents intending to use FIA Funding for forest carbon monitoring projects should be guided by the methodology outlined in 'Forest carbon accounting at the operational scale' (Kurz, W., M. Apps, E. Banfield and G. Stinson, 2002, Forestry Chronicle 78:672-679) and the publications listed below.
