Inventory Investment

Allowable Annual Cut (AAC) determinations, strategic analyses, emerging mid-term timber supply issues, First Nations Treaty negotiations, Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) implementation and carbon estimation all require current and accurate vegetation resources inventory and estimates of site productivity.  Inventory investment is focused on site productivity and forestry updates on priority units for mid-term timber supply mitigation in the Interior and on EBM for the Central and North Coast area.

Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) is applied throughout British Columbia’s North and Central Coast to achieve an adaptive approach to managing human activities that seeks to ensure the coexistence of healthy, fully functioning ecosystems and human communities.

The Inventory Investment category also includes investments in Visual Quality objectives. Visual Landscape Inventories are carried out to record those areas in the province that are visually sensitive.

Planning and Delivery

Planning is done through Ministry working groups to identify priorities and rank investments. Annual activities and targets are identified in the Land Based Investment Strategy.

Delivery is done directly by Ministry staff in conjunction with the contracting community. For further information on VRI contact Gary Johansen  Gary.Johansen@gov.bc.ca; Jacques Marc Jacques.Marc@gov.bc.ca for Visuals, or Dorthe Jakobsen Dorthe.Jakobsen@gov.bc.ca for Ecosystem Based Management.

Activity Standards

Activity standards for Vegetation Resource Inventories (VRI) are available on the RISC website.
