Marten Geertsema is the Research Geomorphologist with the Prince George Forest Region, and has been with the Forest Service since the mid 1980's (mostly in the Prince Rupert Forest Region). His research is collaborative, and involves leading scientists from Canada and the United States. Marten studies landslides, historic and pre-historic natural disturbance regimes (focusing on fire and mass movement), and problems in terrain analysis. He is heading up a team of terrain scientists putting together a compendium of natural hazards for northern BC. He also consults with the forest districts on terrain stability problems, and reviews terrain stability mapping projects. Marten teaches courses on the management of landslide prone terrain for professional and technical audiences, and frequently guest lectures at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and The College of New Caledonia (CNC). He has also developed and taught senior courses in the Environmental Science and Geography programs at UNBC.
