Vision
We are a dynamic team, excelling in First Nation relations with our clients in support of a vibrant, productive natural resource sector.
Mission
To purposefully support First Nation’s
interests in the natural resource sector balanced by crown and societal
interests.
Who We Are
The First Nation Relations Branch of the Ministry
of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations provides leadership in co-ordinating
and developing policies, initiatives and support
to First Nations' issues as they pertain to forest
management.
The Branch ensures that existing aboriginal and
treaty rights are acknowledged and respected
in Ministry legislation, policies and programs
and that current case law is reflected in the
Ministry's business.
The Branch works with regions and districts to
provide advice and guidance on the appropriate
application of policies as they relate to ministry
operations and support for economic opportunities
in the forest sector and supporting negotiations
undertaken by the Ministry of Recognition and
Reconciliation (MARR) with First Nations.
This extends to involvement in consultation,
interim measures, treaty negotiations, program
development and implementation and policies.
