Canada's Forests - Tradition and Transition
National Forest Week 2007 (September 23-29) is geared to be a great success and will be held the last full week of September (Sunday through Saturday).

National Forest Week related events are held from September 8th to 29th, 2007.
The 2007 year plans included:
National Forest Week (NFW) displays at three farmers markets. Meet your local Ministry of Forests and Range staff, collect a free seedling and enter a contest to win prices. Events are organized by the South Island Forest District:
NFW Qualicum Farmers Market on September 8, from 8:30 am to 12 pm. Location: Fir Street and Memorial, Qualicum Beach. For more information visit the market web site.
NFW Duncan Farmers Market on September 15, from 9 am to 2 pm. Location: on the Trans Canada Highway at Boys Road. This is just South of the Cowichan River, at the Sun Valley Mall, next to Serious Coffee, Duncan, BC. For more information visit the market web site
NFW Port Alberni Farmers Market on September 22. Location:
Harbor Quay, at the bottom of Argyle Street, Port Alberni, BC

Your name will be entered for a draw for a forestry related price,
There will be a draw at each Farmers Market and one for the online or drop off forms.

“Back to the Future – A Chief Foresters Perspective”
The NFW Committee and the South Island Woodlot Association are pleased to host Larry Pederson, and Jim Snetsinger to Port Alberni. This presentation will follow this years National Forest Week Theme “Tradition and Transition” as these individuals consider past trends in relation to the emerging challenges of forest management in British Columbia.
About the speakers:
Jim Snetsinger, Ministry of Forest and Range Chief Forester. Jim Snetsinger completed a degree in forestry at the University of Toronto before moving to Prince George in 1979 to join a forestry consulting company. He came to Vancouver in 1981 to work for BC Hydro, and joined the Ministry of Forests in 1986. He was named chief forester in November 2004, and today lives in Prince George, but also has an office in Victoria. In addition to determining the annual allowable cut for B.C.’s 71 forest districts, Snetsinger’s responsibilities include overseeing legislation governing forestry and directing the Ministry of Forests and Range’s scientific research.
