Notice Changes to Forest Service recreation sites, trails, camping passes and map fees The provincial government's core services review has determined that managing recreation sites and trails is no longer a Ministry of Forests’ core priority. All Ministry of Forests recreation sites and trails will be transferred to other agencies and organizations or cancelled. The process to transfer or cancel the sites and trails is beginning immediately and will be completed by March 31, 2004. Recreation camping pass and recreation map fees are eliminated effective April 2002. Some enhanced service campgrounds will continue for 2002 - a $10.00 overnight camping fee will continue to be payable to operators of these sites. Please see the following webpage for additional information about enhanced campgrounds:http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfp/rec/enhanced_recsites.htm The public will be able to access "cancelled" sites and trails, just as vacant Crown land can be used now. Removal of some structures and the closure of some sites and trails will occur where public safety or environmental risks are considered to be high. Due to the changing status of Forest Service recreation sites, trails and Forest Service Roads, the accuracy of recreation map information cannot be assured. For this reason, recreation maps will no longer be available from Forest District Offices. For updated information about the Ministry of Forests recreation program please see the ministry's recreation home page at: BC Forest Service Recreation Program Home Page Bill Marshall, Senior Recreation
