Mitten Lake Recreation Site - # 36
Access
The Mitten Lake road is seven kilometres west of Parson (87 km north of
Invermere), off Highway 95. Turn south, immediately pass an operating mine
and continue about 14 kilometres on a semi-rough 2WD road to the lake.
Characteristics and Description
Mitten Lake is the most popular of 11 Ministry of Forests recreation sites
located within Tree Farm License 14. It is very busy throughout the summer
season and the second-highest use district site. Crowded camping
conditions can be expected on weekends, as the lake is an important destination
for residents from nearby Golden.
The main site features a large dock, small beach / boat launch area,
wheelchair accessible toilets and including overflow sites, can accommodate over
20 vehicles. Three other sites are along the east shore as you drive and
provide camping for another five parties.
This medium-size lake, with its alternately forested and marsh shoreline
provides excellent sport-fishing and boating opportunities (boat trailer
launching). The use of jet skis is not recommended and this activity may
be banned in the future for environmental and safety reasons.
Fishing
Stocked every two years with rainbow trout.
