Noxious Weed Program

The Noxious Weed Program started small with only a few sites to control, whereas today there are over 1000 weed sites in the District. Chemical control as well as biocontrol agents, mechanical and cultural methods are being used to slow the spread of noxious weeds.  Noxious weeds being tackled are Spotted and Diffuse Knapweed, Leafy Spurge, Dalmatian Toadflax, and Hounds-tongue. Sulphur cinquefoil is now becoming evident in the northern portion of the District and requires action immediately to stop its spread.

This program is now operating from the Ministry of Forests Regional Office in Kamloops. Russ Horton is the Invasive Plant program manager for the Southern Interior Region. Information on new weed infestations located on Crown Forest Land, including maps or directions can be passed to Region via the Rocky Mountain District Office. For information contact
