When an area of Crown land is "Designated" under
Part 13 of the Forest Act (i.e. Sections 168 - 175) by the Lieutenant
Governor in Council, various restrictions on land use and forest
harvesting may apply to this area. Under Section 173, the Chief Forester
may reduce the Allowable Annual Cut (AAC) for the areas in question for
the duration of the Part 13 designation, so that forest harvesting on
the remaining timber harvesting land base is maintained at an
appropriate level.
There are three such designated areas currently in
effect in the Haida Gwaii Forest District. Maps showing
locations, and Orders designating the areas and describing AAC
reductions, as follows:
1) Duu Guusd (located on western Graham Island,
affecting the Queen Charlotte Timber Supply Area (TSA #25)):
