Prior to salvaging any floating or beached timber (situated below the high
tide line), within the North Island Central Coast Forest District, all
applicants must take the following steps:
Step 1: Using the following map, determine if the timber is located
within or outside of the Gulf Salvage District
Step 2: If the timber is within the Gulf Salvage District (South of
Cape Caution) applicants:
Step 3: If the timber is outside of the Gulf Salvage District, the
timber can be corralled immediately. Prior to cutting any timber, the salvager
must contact the scaling department for instructions on how to proceed. For a
list of staff, please refer to our
Staff Directory. To become registered, see the attached
Marine Log Salvage Procedures and Guidelines. Complete the last page
and submit the Marine Log Salvage Client Application to the North Island Central
Coast Forest District Scaling Supervisor who can be reached at:

Step 4: Regardless of where the timber is located, all timber must be
transported in accordance with the Timber Marking and Transportation
Regulations. For the most recent edition, please refer to the
Timber Marking and Transportation Regulation. If you require additional
