The focus of the North Island - Central Coast
Forest District's salvage program is to recover dead and down crown timber that
would otherwise be lost to biotic or abiotic factors. Although cedar tends
to be the primary interest, all species are eligible. Those who are interested
in salvage must determine if the timber is crown, versus private, property.
As a rule, timber within a Marine setting (be it
beached or free floating) or Lake (free floating only) is eligible for
consideration, providing there are no conflicts with higher level issues.
If situated on land, the timber is eligible for consideration if the proponent
can demonstrate the wood is within the chart area of BCTS or vacant crown land.
For more details on the specifics of what to do, please visit the respective
salvage opportunities listed to the left of this page.
As the name suggests, small scale salvage is for
any qualified resident of British Columbia wishing to utilize relatively small
volumes of timber. In the event you are unable to secure the volumes
required to meet your needs, you are encouraged to seek other opportunities
through larger organizations such as the BC Timber Sales program or purchasing
from major tenure holders.
