Land and Resource Management Plan

The Fort Nelson Land and Resource Management Plan (LRMP) was completed in October 1997. This land use plan covers an area of approximately 9.8 million ha, i.e. the entire area administered by the Fort Nelson Forest District.

The LRMP was a government wide initiative. Many different government ministries and agencies (provincial, regional and local) as well as industry groups and non-government interests participated at the LRMP table along with a diverse cross section of public participants.

For further details, please view the Appendices for the Fort Nelson LRMP.

Muskwa-Kechika Management Plan

Aerial view looking West to Village of Toad River in the M-KMA, Oct 1/04.

The Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA) overlaps three MoFR Forest Districts in North Eastern BC. The M-KMA covers an area of 6.37 million hectares overlapping the Fort Nelson, Mackenzie and Peace Forest Districts [the Peace District combines the former Dawson Creek and Fort St. John Forest District’s]. Of this 6.37 million ha, there are 3.8 million ha (or 59.6 %) within the Fort Nelson Forest District.

The M-KMA Act empowers the Muskwa-Kechika Management Plan (M-KMP). The M-KMP encompasses the entire M-KMA. The portion of the M-KMA that overlaps the Fort Nelson Forest District has its own Objective Matrix.
