Recreation Trails in the Columbia Forest District

General Information

There are several types of closures to manage recreation activities.

Recreation closures put in place under the Forest and Range Practices Act or Forest Recreation Regulation.  Most of these closures  are put in place to help prevent damage to trails and the fragile alpine environment.

Wildlife act closures are put in place to protect wildlife.  The local closures are used to protect Caribou in the winter.

Restrictions under the Golden Backcountry Recreation Access Plan represent a negotiated agreement by a large number of users and stake holders who are very familiar with the area.  The end product of their efforts is a plan approved by government that addresses access is such away that all recreation experiences are maintained and balanced.
